An inquest held at Southampton revealed that Lance Corporal Ernest Poole, of Sydney had dived from, a breakwater in France, in order to save a child. He
was too modest to mention the cause of his injuries, when placed in a hospital suffering from a dislocation of the spine and bronchitis' as a result of the dive.
The jury expressed their admiration of Lance-corporal Poole's gallantry.

Studio portrait of Sapper (Spr) Reginald Harry Tannebring, 5th Divisional Signal Company Engineers, of Northfield, SA. A cabinetmaker prior to enlistment, he embarked with the 5th Reinforcements on board HMAT Commonwealth (A73) on 21 September 1916. Spr Tannebring was admitted into hospital on 21 April 1918 suffering from the effect of a gas shell and bronchitis; he died later that same day. Spr Tannebring was 20 years of age.
