33rd Battalion Australian Infantry Killed in Action 3-8-1918 (HMAT Warilda A69) Honoured Australian War Memorial Panel 121 On 3 August 1918 the HMAT Warilda, an Australian hospital ship, was struck and sunk by a torpedo from a German U-boat. The vessel had been transporting sick and wounded Allied soldiers across the English Channel and was clearly marked with a Red Cross. At the time of the attack there were 801 people aboard. Sadly, 123 lost their lives.
